The Secret of the Engagement Ring
When Paul told me that he had the engagement ring I asked if I could bring the camera and macro lens over to take some pictures before he officially gave it to Jennifer. He was reluctant, but I promised not to show anyone until she said it was okay... and for once, I kept my promise.

While I was taking photos Paul stepped away for a few minutes. I tried to adjust the position of the ring with one hand and the camera in the other, but the ring accidentally slipped onto the hot stove.

I quickly set down the camera and pulled it off the stove, but noticed what appeared to be writing glowing on the inside. Grabbing the camera again I zoomed as close as possible and took this photo.

Close examination and a little sharpening in Photoshop revealed an inscription with strange letters. I've spent considerable time at the St. Charles Library in the past few days decoding these ancient runes. The closest translation I could decipher is as follows:

"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness, bind them"
Last evening I saw Jennifer wearing the ring. She wasn't invisible. I'm not sure what this all means.
