The Bund
July 28, 2007 - Shanghai
A"bund" is an embankment around a harbor area. I don't recall the origin of the term, but it sounds German or Dutch. As migh be expected, it characterized an area of commercial buildings, in days of old.

I think that many buildings in the Shanghai "Bund" were once-upon-a-time commercial, then became government offices, and are now heading back towards upscale commercial.

It is somewhat of a public park, with a long, broad walkway overlooking the harbor and city skyline. I was a little surprised to see that boat with a huge sign, just cruising back and forth, advertising to the people looking out across water.
